Assignment 21A - Reading Reflection No. 2

1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?

  • Scott Abrams emphasizes the point that it is most important to focus on oneself before you focus on winning big. You can't win big if you are lacking in physical fitness, have poor eating habits, and lack quality social interactions. Security is also important to focus on, such as your job, investments, house, etc.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
  • To me, the part I feel connected the most with the class is when he talked about passion. You can be really passionate about something, but at the end of the day, it might not be that profitable. Sometimes it's better to go for what works. If you start a business and it becomes successful, you'll find a way to be passionate about it.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
  • I would create an exercise where the individual would convert personal goals into successful systems. For example, if someone had a goal of losing 5 pounds, you would convert it into a system of eating healthier. You don't want to be distracted by goals, they can often leave you disappointed or unfulfilled, whereas a good system is consistent and easier to focus on.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
  • I didn't realize the impact your diet can have on your mood. By eating healthier, you can have more energy throughout the day to focus on your system to improve yourself and your business. I've understood that eating healthy is important, but I never realized its connection to the business world. It's important to eat healthy, but to make it fun. Find healthy foods you enjoy so you are happy and look forward to eating those things.

  1. Hey Jacob,

It seems like we read the same book but I think you made a typo on the author's name. Other than that, I really liked what you did with this assignment. Even though we read the same book, you focused on different aspects for your answers which I found very interesting. The part about dieting was very eye opening to me as well but just wasn't as surprising to me personally as the systems part of the book.

  2. Hey Jacob,

I chose the same book for this assignment. I really enjoyed reading it. Like Kyle said above, I think it's interesting how you focused on different aspects of it to answer these questions than I did. I had a similar experience as you with regard to his thoughts about eating healthy. Although I always realized its importance, I had never thought to tie it into improving your business.
