Assignment 12A - Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
Segment: College students who go to the gym at least once a week.
- My first interview was with a second year male who goes to the gym almost every day. He is in the business college and has most of his classes online and therefore has a flexible schedule. When I asked him how he feels about whether or not the gym gets too crowded, he said that it's annoying when he has to wait for a machine that can sometimes take up to 10 minutes of pure wait time. He said he as a very strict workout routine and doesn't like to vary from it so he has to wait until the next machine is available. He said he tries to go when the gym is less crowded, but it can change day to day.
- My second interview was with a fourth year girl who uses the gym primarily for cardio. She said that while most cardio machine are usually open, the track can get crowded sometimes and makes it hard to run indoors. During her leg day, she said she also struggles to get the leg press machine, as there is only one in that area. When I asked her if she would be open to changing the time of day she goes to the gym, she said the would be but said it's always a hit or miss.
- My third interview was with a first year male who is trying to go to the gym more often. He said that he usually goes once or twice a week but wants to go more. One thing he said he does to check gym capacity is to use Google to see how busy the gym is. Google does have a feature that lets you know if the business is more crowded than usual, but doesn't give you exact numbers or percentages. This is definitely something to consider down the line, however.
After conducting these interviews, I have learned that he app still has potential to pick up traction, especially among college students where the gyms are usually crowded. Another feature that would be great to have is a notification that alerts users when the gym is below a certain percentage of people in it. This can encourage people who want to go to the gym more often to go, like the freshman I interviewed.
Hey Jacob,
ReplyDeleteThe more assignments of yours that I comment on, the more I feel like this product can actually be very useful and therefore successful. These interviews just continue to validate the idea that this idea is something that everyone who even remotely goes the gym will enjoy and use with regularity. I like how you added the idea of a notification for when it gets less busy.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteGreat job with your interviews. I too believe this would work primarily with a younger crowd/customer base, as we are always on our phones and online. Southwest does offer live cam lookins, but it is often hard to gauge the crowd by just a few blurry, zoomed out cameras. Students are so busy throughout the week, so being able to check in on wait times would be super beneficial for those who barely have time to go in the first place.
Hello Jacob,
ReplyDeleteI think your interviews were effective in figuring out buyer behavior and will be useful for you. The information that you have gathered is very important for market segment identification and targeting. I also have the same problem with the gym and get very frustrated with it being so crowded when I don’t expect it to be. I hope your solution is implemented.
